Scientist!!! Rids the world of the evil curse of the vampires!!! In a soundclash-ready swamp boat!!!!!!  I’m still tripped out by the fact that Scientist lives in Baltimore…
Honestly though, I can’t front: my dub/roots/dancehall collection is weak. Have to hit up Chelove and Selah for photos of the real gems.
Have a listen… Those horns get me every time :-)

Another one from my childhood… and another source of great samples.

Ten inch EP on Firecracker Recordings with a beautiful sleeve featuring Captain Marvel. How fly is that?  I bought it for the A side, “Piece of Mind” by the Linkwood Family - a near perfect instrumental hiphop track with a 70s vibe.

Not sure what year I got this record, but it was one of my first after moving to the US.  Rediscovered it after I started DJing.  Full of great old radio style samples.

Think I got this at Second Story Books in Dupont… That used to be my joint for finding random records from all over the world.  No mas unfortunately, they stopped stocking vinyl.

Tenth anniversary release from the famous Dirt Style scratch record series by the Invisible Skratch Piklz.  The Skratch Piklz aren’t just some of the baddest turntablists ever, they are funny as hell and you can see it in their record covers.

Ritual music from Haiti.  Peace to all those recovering after the earthquake…
I collect a lot of percussion and roots music from the Caribbean, but I have to admit: the music on this one could have been complete merde, I would have still bought it.  I mean really, how fly is that photo?

“Al Oud” from the Nubian singer and musician Hamza El Din.  The oud is like a lute and it came to Nubia (southern Egypt) from Arabia. (yeah, I’ve been reading wikipedia…)
Edit: man, you can find anything on youtube… here, have a listen.

Kawaida: absolutely amazing avant-garde jazz album with heavy African influence.  Also the only time, I believe, that Herbie Hancock and Don Cherry recorded together.

Japanese bamboo flute music, some of the most haunting music you will hear.  A staple in my dub/abstract sets.
